The aims of the JMS are to promote study and research on physiology, pathology and clinical medicine on menopause and aging; to contribute to the well-being of all people and society.
The Japan Menopause Society was founded in 1992. The number of members has been growing, its multidisciplinary membership of approximate 1700 leaders in the field-including experts from obstetrics, gynecology, internal medicine and health care providers from various fields. The society has several regular scientific activities; an annual meeting, general assembly, workshops for menopausal health care, biannual publication of "The Journal of the Japan Menopause Society", and a longitudinal epidemiological study on women's lifestyle and health care titled "the Japan Nurses' Health Study". The society manages web site, providing the information and current topics on menopause and relating issues, regional services covering medical care and upcoming events organized by the Society.
The Japan Menopause Society had the honor to host the 9th International Menopause Society World Congress on the Menopause on October 1999, at Yokohama, providing 13 plenary lectures and 24 symposiums. More than 2,000 participants from 44 countries participated in the congress and exchanged fruitful discussion.
Furthermore, the 5th scientific meeting of the Asian Pacific Menopause Federation will be organized in Tokyo 2013, hosted by the JMS.

The membership of JMS consists of regular members and supporting members. The regular member is open to individual scientists who are involved in basic research or clinical work, who agrees to the aims of the society. The supporting member is open to those individuals or group of people who agrees to the aims of the society.
